As most people know, GST in Singapore has increased from 5% to 7%. Obviously, all selling prices increased and what can we do to not spend too much? One very useful and practical way is to spend less. =D
All right, let me share some saving tips from my point of view. =D
(Note to be taken: I am not discouraging anything, I am just suggesting ways to save money!!)
1) Take public transport. If possible, try not to take taxi through it is considered as public transport. Better still, jog or walk to your destination.
No offend to the taxi drivers. But, for some people who really want to save up money, take buses and trains. They cost less than half the fare of the taxi's. For people who are fitter or would like to be fitter, try jogging and walking to your destination.
2) For car owners, plan your route for the day. It will help you to save fuel cost. However, public tranports and jogging would be a better choice through.
3) Use fans instead of air-conditioners.
Who wouldn't want to feel cool for 24 hours? But do you know that, the cost of using air-conditioners are thrice of that of the fans? Most importantly, using fans would definitely more environmental friendly than using of air-conditioners. Nevertheless, natural wind would be the best!
4) Eat at hawker centers instead of foodcourt.
I believe most people would prefer food court to hawker. Most people reflected that it is because there're air-conditioners at the food court. But, well, are you aware that food sold at the foodcourt are slightly more expensive that those sold at hawker center? To me, I always feels that air-conditioners always spoil the original flavour of the food.
5) Cook your owe meals and/or bring lunchboxes to school or to your work place. (for those who would like to save more)
6) Play sports and/or do workouts at areas that are less costly or best still, free-of-charge.
Playing netball in public court would definitely be cheaper than playing bowling. Jogging around neighbourhood would definitely be less costly than running on trackmill in gym.
7) Use house phone to call instead of your handphone.
The cost of using handphone to call out is definitely more expensive than using your house phone unless you have free outgoing call. If you are running out of sms, call the person and talk through phone. A minute of conversation would definitely get more message across compared to 4 smses.
8) Call at the off-peak hours (if possible)
If there's a need to use handphone and yet you want to save money, try to call your friends and loved ones at the off-peak hours.
9) Try not to surf the net using handphone.
Surfing net through computers are less costly than when you surf net through phone. What's more, most of us have a certain no. of hours of internet that are charged at a cheaper rate.
10) Bring boiled plain water for sports.
Personnelly, realised this, nowadays, people prefered buying drinks from shops than getting themselves "home-produced" water. What's more it is proven that plain drinking water is the best for one after playing sports. Of course, boiled plain water cost less than you buy a bottle of drink from a shop.
11) Bring a bottle of "home-produced" water where ever you go. (just to add on to No. 10)
This would definitely save you the cost to get yourself a drink when you are thristy.
All right, I think that's all for now. Feel free to leave a comment to these tips. =)
